It’s that time of year! Time to get the band back together for the 2024 Highland Municipal Band Season. We will have 9 concerts in the summer, and another Christmas concert in November.

Indicate your interest in playing this season by completing the form in the link below no later than May 19. Please have your calendar ready to indicate any weeks you cannot attend. You must be at the full rehearsal on Tuesday in order to play the concert on Friday. If your schedule changes throughout the summer, please notify Sandy in writing/email of any weeks you will be unable to attend so that there is ample time to secure a sub. (Greg and Rodney do not accept attendance notifications.)

To be considered for full time status you must play at least 6 concerts during the summer.

The music is very challenging and we only have one rehearsal to prepare an average of 10 selections. Therefore sight-reading, as well as musical ability, is a must. Seats will be filled by qualified applicants. High school students seeking a position must be members of the school band and have the recommendation of their director.

You will be notified of your 2024 status by June 7. If you are notified that you are a substitute musician for the season, you need only attend the rehearsals and concerts that you are asked to play. Sandy will call you to fill seats as we are aware they are needed.

Those who have not played in the band previously (or it’s been several years) will need to fill out an IL W-9 form in order to get paid. (You only need to submit the first page- please fill out name, address, SSN, and signature.) Paper copies will be available at each rehearsal. You can either have Sandy deliver your W-9 to the city with payroll at the end of the season, or deliver it to City Hall at your convenience.
Rehearsals and Concerts
All rehearsals begin promptly at 7 PM in the Highland High School Band room. The room will open no sooner than 6:35. Please arrive with enough time to sign in (to get paid), warm-up, and prepare for rehearsal. Announcements will be made at 6:50. We use the school’s stands for rehearsal only.
Concerts start at 8 PM on the square in Highland in the band shell. Be seated no later than 7:45. Announcements will be made and attendance taken at 7:50 . Be sure to bring your own stand and take home any water bottles at the end of the evening.
Attire
Attire for summer concerts is a white polo shirt and tan pants or a knee length or longer skirt. No flip-flops. Shirts with logos will be available. Additional information will be provided at rehearsals and on the website.
